TeamWork Motorsport Won the Victory of the Rain Race in TCR China Round 2 at Ningbo
In the second round of TCR China Series held in Ningbo International Circuit on Sep 2, Alex Hui and Sunny Wong from Team Work Motorsport brought back home with a victory. The one-hour race was disrupted by the heavy rain. Alex Hui and Sunny Wong got the lead with a late pit-strop strategy and won the race in the end. Kong Kin Chong and Tang You Xi from MacPro Racing Team finished the 2nd, while Zhu Zhen Yu and Zhou Bi Huang finished the 3rd.
According to the sortation result on Saturday, the top three winners from race 2 started in a reverse order in race 3. André Couto had a good start by overtaking Zhu Zhen Yu and HE Racing’s Li Xue Feng, climbing up to the 1st. Zhu Zhen Yu secured the 2nd position under the strong attack from Tang You Xi. Li Lin from Leo Racing and Sunny Wong were right behind Tang. As the race went on, Zhu Zhen Yu managed to create a comfortable gap while Tang You Xi was overtaken by Li Lin and Sunny Wong afterwards.
Sunny Wong was so close to Li Lin with a tiny gap less than 1 second. Wong pushed so hard and finally overtook Li from inside when Li made a mistake.
The track became slippery due to the rain. Drivers starting with dry tires became struggled on the track. André Couto went back to the pit and equipped with wet tires. Zhu Zhen Yu and Sunny Wong climbed up to the top 2 due to André Couto’s pit stop.
Zhu and Wong tried to maintain the position with dry tires, but unfortunately, they both ran out of the track due to the heavy rain. Zhu hit the guardrail and retired. Wong was able to go back to the race. Behind them, Li Lin went into the sands.
Race control suspended the race with red flag. Teams used this window to change the shifts. Sunny Wong from Team Work Motorsport handed over the shift to his teammate Alex Hui, while MacRacing Team put Kong Kin Chong in the car, replacing Tang You Xi. HE Racing’s Tian Li Ying took over the car from his teammate Li Xue Feng.
As the rain continued, the race control decided to end the race with the results from the previous lap before red flag. The top six were, Alex Hui/Sunny Wong, Kong Kin Chong/Tang You Xi, Zhu Zhen Yu/Zhou Bi Huang, André Couto, Li Xue Feng/Tian Li Ying and Li Lin. Kong Kin Chong/Tang You Xi, Zhu Zhen Yu/Zhou Bi Huang, André Couto clinched the podium of Class A, while Alex Hui/Sunny Wong, and Li Lin were the top 2 of Class B.
